Prince George County Police have released the identity of the guard, Suspected shoplifters shot each other at giant grocery store in Oxon Hill, Maryland on Friday.
The store security guard was identified as Willie Tate, 43, of Fredericksburg, Virginia. The shoplifting suspect was named Zaira Akida, her 20-year-old from District Heights.
according to News release from Prince George County Policeofficers responded to the Giant Grocery store on Audley Lane in Oxon Hill around 10:30 a.m. Friday.
At the scene, police say they found both Tate and Akita suffering from gunshot wounds. Mr. Tachi was confirmed dead at the scene, and Mr. Akita was transported to a hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.
According to police, “Preliminary investigation revealed that Tate attempted to prevent Akita from stealing merchandise from the store. During the encounter, Akita took a gun from his backpack and shot Tate. Tate was able to return fire and hit Akita.
