A Karachi security guard has been kidnapped after falling into a honey trap set by a Cashmore gang. He was kidnapped about two months ago, but according to his family, police are reluctant to register his abduction.
Social activist Salim Barney said in a statement that Azra, a Sahoura Goth resident, contacted the non-profit trust and said his son, Junaid Kamal, a security guard in the Sachar area, was kidnapped on September 24 and is yet to be rescued. He said he was told that he was not.
Barney said his mother said Kamal had been exchanging phone messages with an unknown woman who claimed to be a resident of Cashmore. I told him I was going, booked a ticket and left.
The mother said Kamal kept in touch with her until they arrived in Cashmore, but lost contact after that. He demanded ten million rupees to do so.
Barney said the kidnappers also sent Azra a video of her son being chained up, beating him screaming in pain and telling him to demand money from his mother.
Activists said in another video sent by the kidnappers that the victim had a beard and that he was being tortured as someone kept pointing a Kalashnikov gun at his face. He added that he could also hear Kamal screaming for help.
The victim’s mother turned to the Salim Barney Trust for help. Her son is married and is the father of three children. She claimed that she had contacted the Karachi Police and was told the case belonged to the Cashmore Police.
Mr Barney said he would ask the High Court to order the registration of the kidnapping case and the safe recovery of the victim.
