Victoria Gardens Security Company security guard Desmond Guddu allegedly beat 26-year-old Hakeem Nouf to death during an altercation on Lugard Avenue in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Guddu, who had been hired to guard buildings in the area, allegedly housed Nuhu in a guard post after he agreed to pay the rent.
The problem started on Monday 10th October. Nuhu worked as a motor boy for a water purification company, but he did not pay the agreed amount.
This reportedly led to an argument between them, and Guddu allegedly punched Nuhu when he fell and died.
Ayo Ipaddeola, a contractor who worked in the area, said, “The only people staying in the house were security guards. Nuhu, the victim, worked for a water purification company and had no place to stay. That’s why. So he made a deal with Guddu to sleep in his security post and pay for it.
“So he would wake up in the morning, go to work, and come back in the evening. It was in the process that he hit Nuhu lightly.
Sources said the victim was taken to a police hospital in Faromo, where he died.
He said, “He died around 7 a.m. the next day. His body was deposited at the Federal Medical Center’s morgue, Ebut Metta, for an autopsy.”
The trader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Gudyu’s security firm reported the incident to the police.
“I am aware that the owner of the house does not live there. she added.
State Police spokesman Benjamin Handein confirmed the incident.
“The suspect has been detained and is being investigated,” he said.
