TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Toledo police were called to the scene multiple times at the mall on Monday after a brawl broke out between teenagers. A police report on one of the incidents gives a better idea of what happened.
Police received reports of teenagers getting into fights at the mall, but officers said most fights were over by the time they arrived. However, officers did report catching several boys during the brawl.
Several girls were detained after a brawl broke out near a movie theater, according to reports. Additionally, a security guard was assaulted while trying to evict other teenagers from the area.
“In one of the incidents, a guard had some kind of liquid thrown at him during one of the fights,” said TPD spokesman Lieutenant Paul Davis. “In that case, the boys were detained and released to their parents without charge.”
Lt. Davis said all involved were minors. TPD is currently doing everything possible to keep the Franklin Park Mall safe for everyone.
“One of the things we’ve done is increase the additional patrols there,” said Lieutenant Davis. “There’s an off-duty cop who works and is employed at the mall there.”
Lieutenant Davis called this an isolated incident, but he also warns that most of the time, fights like this don’t come out of nowhere.
“Every time these things happen, the kids out there say that this person is going to fight this person before we know it’s going to build up by then. Davis.
TPD Advice for Parents and Kids: Fight Here. That way we can be notified and be there before it happens,” said Lieutenant Davis.
In response to these incidents, Franklin Park Mall management told 13abc that the safety of shoppers and retailers is the mall’s top priority.
