NEW ORLEANS — A man on a bicycle was shot dead on Canal Street late Sunday afternoon and his bike was stolen, according to a security guard who told EyeWitness News that he heard the shooting and said he I saw the aftermath from the building where I was working.
The incident occurred near the intersection of the canal and North Rampart Street.
NOPD said a man was shot and taken to hospital. He died after being transported.
Security guards said they heard three shots and saw a man lying on the ground shot and a young woman riding a bicycle.
She said that watching a man fight for his life from just a few feet away was more memorable.
“It’s hard for me. It’s hard for the people who tried to resuscitate him. How can I get this out of my head?”
She said the man looked older and had another person with him who was very upset about the procedure.
She also said the incident upset her because she may have been doing patrols in the area.
“The bullet doesn’t have a name. I could have made a round. She could have shot a bystander or a child. There’s a movie theater across the street.”
