Funmilayo Asojo, a 25-year-old man, was remanded to Olokuta Correctional Center yesterday by the Akure Magistrate’s Court on suspicion of stoning security guard Bamiduro Adewole.
Asojo, also known as “Sharp Sharp,” was arraigned in court on one count of murder, but was accused of murdering 59-year-old Adewale.
The defendant is said to have committed the crime on December 28, 2022 at approximately 5:00 pm at the Owo Regional Council, Ondo Province, Ute.
It was collected that sympathizers immediately took the bloodied victim to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead two days later.
Adewole, the brother of the deceased who reported the incident to police, said: N700.
“I didn’t believe it until I saw Duro’s body in the morgue. The accused is known throughout the city.” The crime violated sections 319 and 355 of the Penal Code. 37, Vol. II, Ondo State Act, 2006.
Police prosecutor Augustin Omhenemhen has asked the court to remand the defendant pending the outcome of advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Justice of the Peace RO Yakubu did not accept defendants’ pleas for lack of jurisdiction. Yakub therefore ordered the defendant remanded to his Olokuta Correctional Center pending advice from the DPP.
She has since postponed the case until March 19, 2023 for the sake of mention.
